i HATE adam dunn
Recently, i was on kevin gwin's blog and he was discussing the benefits of having dusty baker as our new manager for the reds. Honestly i didn't read very much of it and don't intend too, but in the comment section i decided i would voice my opinion on the matter. This in turn led to a rant, almost instantly, about how much i hate adam dunn. The following is the comment, which i feel everyone should read:
"i hate dusty baker. he is old and will run us into the ground. the only thing that would solidify him in my mind as a good manager is if he fires that worthless slug Adam Dunn. There. I said it. Adam Dunn is fat, slow, has no glove skills, and loves to strikeout!
Here are some nice stats to go with his true love:
- In 2004 he set the single season record for strikeouts with 195 and almost bested that record with 194 strikeouts in 2006. Currently Ryan Howard is the leader with 199 last year, but i'm sure with some new motivation, Adam Dunn will reach for the stars and become the first player to have 200 strikeouts in a single season. Golf Clap.
- Since joining the reds in 2002 (yes i know it was technically 2001 when he was called up but i'm going with full season records so shut up) he has consistently been in the
top three for strikeouts in a season. 2003 does not count b/c it wasn't a full season (thumb injury. out for the rest of the season. yeah, i know. what a pussy), but he did amass 126 strikeouts in 381 AB which was putting him on track to be right up there again. He even led the majors for three straight seasons, 2004-2006. I bet the trophies are spectacular.
And for all you people that are going to shoot back about his slugging percentage, he finished 14th in 2004 with a .569 slugging percentage. I'm only impressed with that b/c we were only paying him $445,000 that year and not $10.5 million like last years awe-inspiring season.
As far as your rebuttal in regards to his defensive skills, jockbio.com stole the words right out of my mouth:
"As for Adam’s defensive future, the crystal ball is less clear. Though competent in left, he does not figure to improve significantly. His long arms and foot speed erase many mistakes, but he will never win a Gold Glove. The dreaded move to first base may not be far away."
I agree with that almost entirely. The only beef i have with that statement is the part about his "foot speed." I'm not sure exactly what their basing his mistake erasing foot speed on, but unless that mistake was challenging a person with no legs to a footrace, I have no idea where anyone would get the impression he is fast. Anyone who has seem a game, in person or on tv, can tell instantly that he is slow reading the ball off the bat, has no lateral quickness, and runs like a camel.
I could go on for days about how terrible adam dunn is but i don't want to get carpal tunnel syndrome from praising such a wonderful "athlete." Plus i just found out that the reds are going to pick up his option for $13.5 million next year, so i have to go swallow a knife.
FYI: While i was digging up these magnificent facts, i found out that Jason Giambi was the highest paid player last year. wtf!?"
